~Maternal~
This sculpture, done in Tiger Eye Alabaster. A soft stone in places, but again there are areas that are much harder than others. This stone has so many areas that are contradictory to one another. Some areas are easy to file but difficult to chip, and vice-versa! Very exciting. It demanded me to leave out detail and still have a strong piece that exhales, that brings home to me the nostalgic memories of farm life; watching the hens nestling their soon to be chicks.

The warmest feeling comes from watching the maternal instincts of the animal, bird world. I did not desire to "sculpt a chicken." I desired to show the caring and gentleness of the maternal nature of creatures.

I love the markings of the various Tiger Eye stones. The mystery of what it looks like inside is enough to conjure up infinite possibilities. I truly hope you get the fulfillment out of the piece that I do.

The glass eggs were commissioned from Jane Olson, a glass blower from my hometown area. I want to make it a habit of adding other materials to the medium, be it alabaster or any other stone.

Available in bronze.
Several patinas are available.
